The Heart & Future of the Community

StoneGate Center Downtown, Girgis Building

As one of two winners of Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann’s Indiana’s 2013 Stellar Communities Award, Bedford’s plan focused on downtown revitalization, development and expanding educational opportunities.
To that end, StoneGate Center has moved to its newly constructed state-of-the-art facility at 931 15th St., at the corner of 15th and J streets on the Lawrence County Courthouse square.
Construction of the new facility was completed in October 2018. Oakland City University and Ivy Tech Community College began offering classes in the spring 2019 semester. Vincennes University will begin offering classes in summer 2019.

The new StoneGate facility provides a downtown location for job training, degree work and professional training in collaborative partnerships with Oakland City University, Ivy Tech, Radius Indiana, West Gate Academy and the North Lawrence Career Center.
Discussions are under way with additional higher-education providers to offer classroom space at StoneGate Center Downtown.

StoneGate Center will partner with Indiana University, the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County, Bedford Public Library and the Lawrence County Museum of History for youth training and education, and with local performing arts groups to present independent films and cultural events.

The site hopes to house a branch of the Indiana University Chinese Flagship Center, which will offer Mandarin language courses.
StoneGate Arts & Education Center will ensure international, national, regional and local impact for skilled trades, advanced manufacturing and information technology.

StoneGate will provide outstanding educational, personal, professional and cultural development for Lawrence Countians today and for years to come.
